A safe, supportive environment for disabled swimmers of all ages
We run a private session at the pool on Saturday mornings from 9.15am to 10.15am.
Settle Area Disabled Swimmers was founded in 1984. The remit of the group is to provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where individuals of all ages and disabilities can benefit from being in water. In addition to this fundamental aim, we also encourage family involvement, enabling parents, children and siblings to enjoy time together in an environment where disabilities can be minimised.
Settle Area Disabled Swimmers is a registered charity, whose members pay an annual subscription, paid quarterly, which is used to rent Settle Swimming Pool for one hour every Saturday morning. We have the support of a qualified swimming teacher and an experienced carer. No member of the group receives payment.
Looking to the future: it is hoped, in cooperation with the pool manager and staff, that we will be able to extend our work to include dementia sufferers and individuals who struggle with obesity.
The swimmers group provides a quiet, calming environment for swimming and waterborne exercise. Volunteers are on hand to help with any requirements which you may need during your time with us in the pool. Sports and other injury visitors are also welcome. If you have sustained an injury whilst playing sports etc. and you need a quiet environment in which to exercise then please come along.
Members pay an annual fee or half year subscription.
£80 per year for a family (£20 a quarter)
£60 per year for an individual (£15 a quarter)
People attending for a short period, due say to a sports injury, either pay for a quarter or make a donation, to be arranged with the Secretary.
