The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith has praised the support that the people of Settle and district have given to the town's swimming pool, as it prepares to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.
The mayor visited the pool to see for himself what can be achieved when a community comes together over a long period of time to back a much-needed local facility.
As well as seeing round the building which was redeveloped in 2021-22, he was told of how the pool was built 50 years ago as a result of decades of fund-raising through carnivials and the recycling of waste paper. He was also told how the success of the fund-raising shops - now including a new donation point on the Sowarth Industrial Estate was essential to keep the pool afloat.
